A fun and adventurous half day boat and bike tour which combines a scenic lake cruise on the pristine Lake Wanaka with a mountain bike tour skirting the lakeshore. This guided bike tour is unique to Wanaka Bike Guides and allows you to experience one of Wanaka’s more remote biking trails with the support of our experienced bike guides.
The bike track travels through historic farmland and areas of early Lake Wanaka settlements. There will be plenty to talk about as you are biking along. Your Wanaka Bike Guide will be keen to answer your questions and share all the local stories with you as you ride. If you wish, your biking guide is also happy to help you with tips and techniques to improve your mountain biking during the bike tour.
Leaving central Wanaka the boat cruise takes us northwards, up the lake passing nearby three islands – Ruby, Mou Tapu and Mou Waho. As we slip through the crystal clear lake water you will be treated to an endless view of the snow-capped peaks of the Southern Alps. Arriving at the start of our bike tour after our 30 minute boat cruise, we will have time to organise your bike, take some photos and enjoy a snack before departing on our mountain biking tour.
The route we follow is a purpose built biking and walking trail. In most places it’s wide enough to ride two abreast. The biking track travels over a variety of ground with a few moderate uphill climbs, some long cruising downhill and easy flat riding sections. Depending on the season, there may even be a few exciting stream crossings. As with all our biking tours, we allow plenty of time for the bike trip and we will have time to stop for morning or afternoon tea and even a paddle in the lake if the day is hot. Waiting for you at the end of the trail will be our Wanaka Bike Guides driver with the van to load your bike and transport you back to central Wanaka.
